VoIP Telephony

VoIP requires a high-speed internet connection. If you don't already have a provider, we've got you covered! The average bandwidth needed per voice channel is 64k. Some providers use a compression algorithm and can reduce it to 32k, others need 128k. QoS is key ( Quality of Service ). This may appear like "I always expect a high quality service" but directly relates to the prioritization of Voice traffic over internet demands like surfing, sending emails or video conferencing. QoS will ensure voice has the highest priority. The best way to ensure this is a MPLS Network.

Voice over IP telephony is a category of hardware and software that enables people to use the Internet as the transmission medium for telephone calls by sending voice data in packets using IP rather than by traditional circuit transmissions of the PSTN. One advantage of VoIP is that the telephone calls over the Internet do not incur a surcharge beyond what the user is paying for Internet access, similar to the way you don't pay for sending individual e-mails over the Internet with each occurrence.

VoIP

Short for Voice over Internet Protocol. VoIP also is referred to as Internet telephony, IP telephony, or Voice over the Internet (VOI).

PSTN

Short for Public Switched Telephone Network, which refers to the international telephone system based on copper wires carrying analog voice data. This is in contrast to newer telephone networks base on digital technologies, such as ISDN and FDDI.

Telephone service carried by the PSTN is often called plain old telephone service (POTS).

Telephony

The science of translating sound into electrical signals, transmitting them, and then converting them back to sound; that is, the science of telephones. The term is used frequently to refer to computer hardware and software that performs functions traditionally performed by telephone equipment. For example, telephony software can combine with your modem to turn your computer into a sophisticated answering service. Voice mail is another popular telephony application.

Why use a Telecom Broker? March 13, 2010

Finding DS1, DS3 or Business DSL service in your area can be a challenge. If you don't know the providers you would likely start with your local phone company (and likely get a horrible deal). When searching for a service it's important to know which providers have POP's (Point of Presence) in your area but for some reason service providers don't like to reveal this information.

If a DS1 - T1 or Business DSL line is in your near future, take the guesswork out of your search and contact a broker. Brokers are able to contact numerous providers in the time it would take you to have a conversation with one or two providers that may not even offer service in your area. Want a line for under $500? Let your broker know this and he or she will know to point you only in the direction of such companies that offer a service at this price.

We recommend the use of brokers in the search for service and we also recommend using a broker to sign up for your service. Many people believe they can "beat the system" by contacting a broker to get pricing and other information as quickly as possible and will then go straight to the carrier believing they can get better service. This "end-run" process is actually a good way to cut yourself out of some of the biggest advantages of having a broker. Brokers don't mark up the price of services. They offer the same price you would get if you did go direct to the company. Often, you will be quoted a higher price rate!

Advantages
The advantage of ordering through a broker is that you will get a second channel of customer service and current information on promotions and price breaks. If the company is not performing to expectation you will always be able to go back to your broker who puts a significant volume through the carrier. A broker is much more likely to get the companies attention and have your problem solved.

Our Job
As your broker, our job is to find the right service provider for you. This involves assessing your needs, matching those needs with the providers capabilities, and negotiating the lowest line rate possible. Check out our real-time rate quote tool! We will save you money on services.
